Outstaff Helps The Homeless in Brighton

Members of staff from nationwide recruitment company, Outstaff, have been helping the homeless in Brighton.

Employees based at Outstaff’s Brighton branch were out in force over the festive period to help those without a roof over their heads. The team swapped the office for the streets in the run-up to Christmas and the New Year in a bid to support homeless people living in Brighton.

Christmas is a highlight in the calendar for many people, but for the homeless, it can be particularly challenging. With temperatures plunging, Outstaff staff members hit the city streets to give out sleeping bags and blankets and provide hot food and drinks.

Brighton is a thriving city, which boasts a strong local economy, but research suggests that it has one of the highest rates of homelessness in the UK. In 2018, Brighton had the second-largest population of rough sleepers behind London, with more than 175 people living on the streets.

Outstaff is a national agency, but local teams like to get involved in community schemes and support initiatives designed to benefit those in need. The office team in Brighton, East Sussex, was keen to help out over the festive period, and taking time to hand out essentials and meet homeless people provided a valuable opportunity to speak to those living on the streets and to spread word about the company’s back to work programme.

Examples of roles include working in local factories. Securing work is vital for earning an income, but working is also proven to boost health and mental wellbeing.
