Leading Cleveland drug attorney, Edward La Rue, has recently discussed the growing drug problem in America, during an interview in Ohio.

Deaths resulting from drug usage in Ohio are expected to surge 70% by 2025, a report recently released by Trust for American’s Health and the Well Being Trust found. This means that in less than a decade 48.5 per 100,000 deaths in Ohio will be drug related.

When asked to comment, La Rue said, “The headlines are not misleading. Drug usage is one of America’s age-old problems that has resurfaced in years, largely stemming from the opioid epidemic.”

Other estimates put drug-related mortality rates in the state higher – at nearly double-fold – by 2025 largely due to the surge in the usage of opioids, such as heroin, fentanyl, and carfentanil.

While this is a widespread problem throughout America, Ohio has it worse than most. The Buckeye state is slated to rank 11th in America by 2025 in terms of mortality rates resulting from drug/alcohol use or suicide.

“Increased drug usage means more arrests, and more arrests mean a need for clients to seek a defense attorney who can mount a successful case, especially at a time when law enforcement will be cracking down on illicit activity.”

The extent of the drug problem faced by Ohio has not always been this severe.

Deaths from drug overdoses in the state have increased 506% since 1999 as per figures from the Trust for American’s Health report.

“The opioid crisis, which has hit Ohio in particular, has happened so rapidly, placing strain the existing legal system. This situation calls for defense attorneys who can navigate the evolving legal system both at the state and federal levels,” De Rue commented.

New laws and new regulations will be created to combat drug and alcohol usage, De Rue added. Some of these new regulations could include making sure that opioids aren’t being overprescribed by doctors or increase the availability of rescue drugs.

“However, this is not a problem that is going away anytime soon. While prevention and treatment efforts are in the works, no one knows how long it’ll take to curb the current drug crisis. In the meantime, we’ll be working within the legal system to help our clients also fight the opioid crisis,” he said.

Trade action slow on first night of NHL draft

Jun 25, 2018

DALLAS — Rasmus Dahlin went first overall to the Buffalo Sabres, Commissioner Gary Bettman was booed relentlessly by the crowd all night and trade chatter didn't amount to a whole lot of movement. With the exception of one trade by the Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals, the first round of the NHL draft went off without many surprises. Only two players and a handful of picks were traded Friday night, leaving general managers hoping for more on Day Two. "That was kind of a boring first day or first round," Philadelphia Flyers GM Ron Hextall said. "It's not typical for...

Formula One's Ricciardo drawn to NASCAR (and even NFL)

Jun 25, 2018

MONTREAL — Daniel Ricciardo drove go-karts while growing up in Australia and found himself drawn to stock car racing and the big personalities behind the wheels. "I loved a lot of motorsports, but as far as the ovals go, I was more into NASCAR," Ricciardo said this month. "Dale Earnhardt was kind of a hero of mine. The No. 3 — it was my first go-kart number, so I already had a bit of affection to No. 3. But being a fan of Dale's as well, that definitely made me want to run that number." In an interview before the...

Player union blasts concussion management at World Cup

Jun 25, 2018

MOSCOW — The impact to his head was so violent that Noureddine Amrabat can't remember the World Cup match at all, even though he was playing in it. "Five, six hours, gone. Totally gone," the Morocco midfielder said of the concussion sustained in his team's opening match against Iran. "When you think about it, it is a little bit scary." Five days after a clash of heads sent him to hospital for a brain scan and 24 hours of medical supervision, the 31-year-old was back in the Moroccan lineup Wednesday and played the entire match in a 1-0 loss to...

FANTASY PLAYS: Rating aging stars Bryant, Murray, Howard

Jun 25, 2018

Former Cowboys Pro Bowlers Dez Bryant and DeMarco Murray find themselves united again, only now they are joined as one-time Fantasy football anchors who have not received a nibble from an NFL team. Both will sign at some point between now and the start of the regular season, as injuries and/or depth issues arise in training camps. When it comes to whether Bryant and Murray still have any Fantasy value, drafters will have to proceed with caution. Regardless of where he signs, the days of viewing Bryant as a WR1 are long over. Last season marked the third straight season...

CFL defensive back Marcell Young levels streaker

Jun 25, 2018

VANCOUVER, British Columbia — B.C. defensive back Marcell Young levelled a streaking fan with a shoulder hit in the Lions' Canadian Football opener Saturday night against the Montreal Alouettes. The fan, wearing an orange Lions jersey and boxer briefs, made his way onto the field during a stoppage in play in the first quarter of BC's 22-10 victory. Young hit the fan near the 45-yard line as he was running across the field and waving his arms to the crowd. Two other Lions players congratulated Young with a chest bump and a high-five as a security guard apprehended the fan....
